The roots of MidSouth Mutual Insurance Company go back to 1995 when construction firms encountered a distressed market for workers’ compensation insurance. Due to those market conditions, both the Tennessee Homebuilders Association and the Tennessee Road Builders Association formed self-insured trusts to provide workers’ compensation insurance. These trusts served association membership faithfully and ultimately were replaced in 2007 by the company now known as MidSouth Mutual.
As a result of the transition to a mutual insurance company, the organization has enjoyed sustained growth during the past three years with gross written premiums exceeding $9.3 million in 2016. Throughout Tennessee and its surrounding states the company has grown and diversified at a healthy pace. This sustained performance is attributable to the foresight and leadership of the MidSouth Mutual board of directors, all of whom have their own roots in the construction industry.
